street. one of the officers shot but missed him. he was picked up when nearby officers stepped in. >> the activity was broadcast over a police radio. the second officer fired his weapon. >> the suspect is recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg. a man allegedly kidnapped his own roommate and held them for ransom. police say justin gorham forced his roommate into his truck at gunpoint. they got into an argument over a $2,000 debt. police eventually caught up with justin gorham and found the victim unharmed in the back seats. >> doctors and hospitals are urged to stop using a steroid

firefighters were forced out of the building. >> the roof collapsed. the commander ordered all members out for the safety of the members that were fighting the fire. >> it took nearly two hours for crews to gain control of the blaze. one firefighter was taken to the hospital. >> or problems -- >> more problems for residents affected by the sinkhole because a third sinkhole has opened up on east monument street. is a small hole than the one that originally opened up. workers are stabilizing the whole.

>> the latest jobs report comes out today. economists are predicting the economy created less than 150,000 jobs. >> this is the second to the last jobs report before election day. the economy has been stuck in low gear. building on a the momentum of wednesday night's debate, romney is trying to reverse his fortunes in ohio, where he is falling behind. >> we have lost half a million manufacturing jobs and china has passed us in manufacturing. >> it is not a plan for our economy or to strengthen the middle class. it is not changed and we will not do it.

hot spots. four people were injured after a school bus curdled over a taxes freeway to the doorstep of a hotel bill. the bus collided with a car in san antonio just before the afternoon rush hour. none of the injuries are life- threatening. some gas stations in southern california are running out of gas. some operators have stopped buying gasoline to fill the underground reserves. word of contamination causing even more shortage fears. a gallon is averaging $4.31 in california. in some places, it is closing on the $6 mark for premium. >> headlight problem causing

unemployment rate will go up to 8.2%. how much will this impact the race for the white house so close to the election? president obama and mitt romney visiting swing states in the keeping an eye on today's unemployment report. an economist says it looks like the economy we have now is the one we'll have on election day. >> i do not think we will see any movement that will sway this election either way. >> the unemployment rate does have an effect on voters. including those who are looking for jobs. or those who have dropped out of the labor force altogether. >> you can blame obama and you could say it is not his fault. it is another reminder that the recovery is not going smoothly. >> the federal reserve is doing
